Private company stakes, trusts, cash, debts, and undisclosed assets. Anyone publishing these as a single number is guessing.

We take the shares Michael Dell reports owning in their most recent SEC Form 4 and multiply by the latest share price. That gives a stake value you can check against the filing itself. Everything beyond that stake — real estate, private holdings, cash, past compensation — is estimated or simply not public, and we say so rather than roll it into one number.
Michael Dell was born in Houston in 1965, the son of an orthodontist and a stockbroker, and showed a knack for business young. As a boy he traded stamps and baseball cards, and as a teenager selling newspaper subscriptions he made enough to buy a BMW, figuring out that targeting newlyweds and new-home buyers beat cold calling.
He enrolled at the University of Texas as a pre-med student but spent his time building and selling upgraded personal computers from his dorm room. In 1984, at 19, he dropped out to run the business full time. Dell’s direct-to-customer model, machines built to order and sold without a middleman, undercut rivals and grew into one of the largest PC makers in the world.
He took the company private in 2013 in a large buyout, reshaped it around data-center and enterprise technology through the 2016 acquisition of EMC, and returned it to public markets in 2018. He has remained chairman and chief executive throughout.
As founder, Dell holds a large stake in the company that carries his name, alongside outside investments through his family office. The company stake is the part this page can verify from filings.

*Estimated net worth is a third-party figure from Forbes (2026), not our own calculation; it is an estimate that changes with the market. Share counts are the latest reported on SEC filings and change as the executive trades; the price is the last close, so the stake value moves with the market.
